I loved this rotation so much! I got to scrub into so many cool cases including laparoscopic and open cholecystectomies, appendectomies, testicular torsions, total knee replacements, hip replacements, fracture repairs and nasal reconstruction surgeries. I also learned a lot of surgical management while doing floor work as well including abscess drainage, chest tube placement and removal, central line placement, wound dressings and so much more. It was an incredible experience. Having the surgery shelf after studying for internal medicine was very helpful since there was a lot of overlap in the pathologies and questions.

This rotation was amazing!!!!! Having IM before surgery was a good review of the important pathologies. Knowing when to operate, the imaging techniques for diagnosis and important surgical contraindications and complications are important. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.
Good luck studying,
